Exercise equals higher salary?

This article from Lifehacker (and a paper from the Journal of Labor Research) describes a correlation between exercise and higher salaries.

Now, any half-way decent researcher would immediately remind you of the difference between correlation and causation. Sure, exercisers make a bit more than those who don't. But, does that mean that those people make more because they exercise? Proving causation will have to wait, but it certainly makes sense. One of the main reasons I stuck with my exercise program a number of years ago was energy boost it gave me at work and the calming influence when things got frustrating.

If exercise can make us perform better in the office, it isn't that much of a stretch to imagine it could eventually help us earn more money.
